Embroidery on Hat/Blanket

Hi Everyone,
It’s been a while since I have stopped by! My needles have been quiet until recently. I knit a baby hat and small blanket. I’m waiting to embroider them to find out if the recipient is a boy or girl.

So… never embroidered before. Do I use that embroidery floss? Any special tips I should be aware of?
