Elongated stitch edge looks funny

Hi,
Im trying to make a scarf usuing an elongated stitch (first two rows knit then next row k1, (yo 3 times, k1) across. After that it says for the next row to k1, (drop the 3 yo’s off the needle, K1). I followed the pattern exactly and keep winding up with one edege that looks fine(like the body of the dropped stitches) but the other edge looks kind of like it’s braided. No matter how many times I ripped it up started over, played with knitting the first stitch or yo the first stitch I still get a similar look. Any ideas of what Im doing wrong? Any sugesstions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Aleksandra

I’m not sure, but it may be that you just need to do a few more repeats before it looks right. When doing the elongated stitch kind of give it a gentle tug and twist to get all the stitches even, too. If that doesn’t help maybe you could post a picture so we can see what it’s doing.

Hi Jan,

I’ve tried doing several repeats, tugging and twisting, I’ve also tried different approaches like working k1, slipping it or doing a yo for the first one all with similar results where the one edge looks kind of braided and the other one looks like its supposed to. There’s not much to this pattern but here it goes:

cast on 15 sts.
Rows 1-3: knit across
Row 4:K1, (YO 3 times, K1) across
Row 5:K1, (drop the 3 YO;s off the needle, K1) across: 15 sts.
Rows 6&7 knit across.
Repeat rows 4-7, bind off all sts.

I’ll post a pic as soon as I re do it, I got frustrated and ripped it all out so I could start all over again. For now, Im out of ideas. Anyone have any suggestions? Thanks.

Aleks

How many times are you supposed to repeat rows 4 to 7?
for that is one very short scarf as you posted it here.

I found my dropped yarnovers/elongated stitches twisting on me too. Discovered that I had to be more careful about turning my work. I was somehow catching a piece of the yarn in the knit across so it twisted.

Try moving your completed work further into your needle when you turn your needles… then slide it back out when you are ready to knit. It helped me. Just a suggestion.
