Those are great!! Cincinnati, OH does something similar every so often with pigs!! It ties in with the Flying Pig Marathon. Cinci was once the pork capital of the US hence the flying pig and the pig statues.
Lakeland does that with its city logo animal which is a swan. We have a lake here in Lakeland that has several pairs of swans that are year round residents.

Those elephants are wonderful! Dublin did horses one year including one inside the GPO covered completelly in Aran knit patterns.
