I am knitting the pinwheel sweater from elann.com, I’m at the armholes bit and I’m confused, I have a video of how to do a provisional cast on but I’m not sure what happens after that! the insructions suggest putting the new stiches on the stitch holder to be the sleeve later, but I can’t decide whether to knit over them again straight away ie cast them onto the left needle, or cast them onto the right needle and wait till the next round, has anyone done this pattern or one similar, was hoping to wear it to a wedding but that’s tomorrow so I don’t like the chances!!!
Thanks in advance
Lynne
You could cast them onto the left needle and knit over them. its provisional cast on with scrap yarn so it will be removed later when you pick up sts for the sleeves.
Thanks, I’ll do that then, this is my first adult sized garment and I would be absolutely gutted if it went wrong!! I’ll let you knot how I get on
thanks
Lynne
An easier way to do that armhole is this… instead of putting the stitches on a holder, knit them with the scrap yarn. Then turn and knit back over them with the scrap yarn. Then take up the sweater yarn and reknit them, leaving scrap yarn in place. Since the scrap will be taken out later, it doesn’t matter if it’s two extra rows and lumpy now, it serves as both a stitch holder and provisional caston.
