Edit- More Shop on Blossom Street Pattern Questions

Hey all fabulously knowledgeable KH’ers!!
I am going to do a marathon knitting of a blanket for my nephew in time for his baptism Feb 12. DH and I have been asked to be godparents and I would love to give him something special his mom and dad could put away for a keepsake. I am trying to be easy on myself by picking a doable pattern that is pretty, not too lacy, but also not a typical blanket.
So, I am going with the “Lydia’s Lacy Blocks” pattern from the companion pattern book to the Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. The specs dictate Lion Brand Jiffy yarn (“bulky”) on 10 US but I want to do it in a more delicate yarn, possibly two stranded. I chose Lion Baby Soft as it has a tinge of a shiney thread in it, it’s sportweight. I took out the yarn tonight to try a swatch and am wondering if I could get by doing one strand on 7’s. It really doesn’t need to be a huge blanket, more like a stroller sized coverlet i guess. The pattern has a cast on of 105 and I’m thinking with smaller needles and lighter yarn, I would get a more petite version. But does anyone think it will be way too small. Perhaps size 8’s would be better. The pattern’s guage is 18 sts/5" which would be about 3.5 sts or so per inch, whereas my swatch of the sport on 7’s seems to be about 5 sts/inch. (i’ll double check that to be sure)
I guess I’m sort of polling the population to see if my casual changes will yield something worth doing or if I’m thinking to hard about it…
Thanks in advance for your help! (p.s. let me know if there are any other details i may have left out that anyone needs to know)

Hmm…don’t know the answers to all your questions, but 105 CO stitches will make it very small! I only CO on 100 for my hat I’m making. It’s in the round, but I’m picturing it flat and it’s super small. You may need more stitches if you are going to use a smaller gauge yarn.

Now I have a question on how to read this part…I just finished row 27, the next part reads…
"Rows 28-32: Repeat Rows 20-24"
This of course I understand, but this is what row 20 is a part of …
“Rows 17-20: Repeat rows 9-12”
:??
Would you include 9-12 with 21-24? or just do 21,22,23,& 24? This is my guess because I have a feeling the block of ssk’s and yo y2tog’s would shift over and cause me major heartache…
After rows 28-32, it says “repeat fows 9-32 until blanket measures…blah blahh”

I have taken this on as a baptism gift for my soon to be godchild/3 mo nephew. I don’t want a gift for this solemn occasion to result in cussin’ and bad vibes, and so far I have frogged it half a dozen times because i couldn’t get past row 11. YO’s for some reason cause me trouble if I have to frog even one row of them as it snowballs into a mess. I have been using a lifeline and hubby even keeps asking me if I’ve put in another as I get further along

I’m still utilizing dh’s 'puter so I am unable to do a pic for the moment…
Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?

:shifty:

If row 20 is really a repeat of row 12, does row 12 look like it belongs there?

You’re the one with the blanket in front of you. If you think that 21-24 is the way to go, then do it.

Have you checked if there is errata published anywhere for this pattern?

Not much help, huh. :??

Aha! I thought my brain was trying to wrap around this… I didn’t think of looking at sort of “re-numbering” the rows that say repeat… i.e. 17,18,19,20 = 9,10,11,12. Excellent logic Ingrid! I’ll plot that out and see what it “tells” me.

I just buzzed an email to Leisure Arts to see if they have ever printed any corrections. The ones currently listed on the knitting part of their site don’t include this book.

I need a break…I’ve been sick all weekend and sat on the couch from noon to about 2 am yesterday and since 11 am until 9pm today… hey, I’m not too sick to knit people!

Well I hope it works out for you!

In my book, being sick is the perfect excuse to do nothing but knit.

My new logo… “Knit, it does a body good!”
