Hey all fabulously knowledgeable KH’ers!!
I am going to do a marathon knitting of a blanket for my nephew in time for his baptism Feb 12. DH and I have been asked to be godparents and I would love to give him something special his mom and dad could put away for a keepsake. I am trying to be easy on myself by picking a doable pattern that is pretty, not too lacy, but also not a typical blanket.
So, I am going with the “Lydia’s Lacy Blocks” pattern from the companion pattern book to the Shop on Blossom Street by Debbie Macomber. The specs dictate Lion Brand Jiffy yarn (“bulky”) on 10 US but I want to do it in a more delicate yarn, possibly two stranded. I chose Lion Baby Soft as it has a tinge of a shiney thread in it, it’s sportweight. I took out the yarn tonight to try a swatch and am wondering if I could get by doing one strand on 7’s. It really doesn’t need to be a huge blanket, more like a stroller sized coverlet i guess. The pattern has a cast on of 105 and I’m thinking with smaller needles and lighter yarn, I would get a more petite version. But does anyone think it will be way too small. Perhaps size 8’s would be better. The pattern’s guage is 18 sts/5" which would be about 3.5 sts or so per inch, whereas my swatch of the sport on 7’s seems to be about 5 sts/inch. (i’ll double check that to be sure)
I guess I’m sort of polling the population to see if my casual changes will yield something worth doing or if I’m thinking to hard about it…
Thanks in advance for your help! (p.s. let me know if there are any other details i may have left out that anyone needs to know)
