Edging

Hello fellow Knitsters!
I need some help understanding a pattern. I’m making a baby blanket and am in the process of attaching the edging of the blanket which is a separate strip that has to be attached to the main part of the blanket.

The pattern is Debbie Bliss baby shawl and it says:
Slip stitch edging in place to edge of shawl in short sections as your knit, easing to fit around corners. Bind off all sts.

How do you slip stitch 2 pieces together, and
what does short sections mean?

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks much!

I do believe they are asking you to crochet the 2 pieces together, a little at a time (that part is entirely up to you and your personal interpretation of “little”), as you knit it.

Kelly, does that mean I would put the two pieces (edging & main part of the blanket) together and insert a crochet hook into one of the stitches? Or do I lay the two pieces side by side and pull the yarn through stitches from both pieces? I’m worried that the two pieces won’t lay flat. Thanks!
