Hi! Completely baffled by the directions here which frustrates me so much! But I love the pattern and pretty sure that it is not as complicated as it seems it is. Can you help me understand how this pattern is going to maintain the number of stitches. Can you help me decipher?
Row 1 k1, *K2tog, k7, (k1, YO, k1) in next st, k2, ask **, repeat ** 16 times, place marker for center back; ^k2tog, k2, k1, YO, k1) in next st, k7, ssk^, repeat ^^ 16 times, end k1.
I guess I am not seeing where the decreases are balanced by increases. And I am unfamiliar with the ^^ symbols.
Thanks for any advice!!
Welcome to KH. What pattern is this from? A link to it if possible would be great. Is that exactly as it appears in the pattern? (k1, YO, k1) in next st looks like a double increase.
Hi! The pattern is for Eccentric Chevron Wrap
I took a photo of the pattern… so is the (k1, YO, k1) in next st. really a double increase?
*K2tog, k7, (k1, YO, k1) in next st, k2, ssk
The repeat increases 2 sts (k1, yo, k1 into the same stitch) and decreases 2 (k2tog and ssk) so the stitch count for each repeat will stay the same. You should start and end with 14 stitches, assuming I counted correctly. The increases and decreases balance out. How many are you starting with and how many do you have after you work the repeat? I suspect the kyok into one stitch might be the problem. The various symbols appear to be markers for repeats. They can be very confusing.
BTW thanks for the additional info. I can read and understand the gibberish but you don’t want me to try to explain it. I’ll muddle things more. Someone else can explain more clearly.
Thanks! I will probably rewrite the pattern for myself. Your information made it much clearer! I think because they put several patterns in the booklet and wanted to save space they didn’t add those clarifying notes I usually depend on! Really appreciate your help! I love this site!!
I expect that you’ll be able to do this once you can decipher the gobbledygook. Do feel free to ask about anything else that confuses you. Someone like salmonmac can explain clearly what’s meant and save you hours of frustration. I think this is your pattern. It’s really pretty. Enjoy making it.
Yup! That’s that pattern. Your explanation helped a lot! I am going to rewrite the directions with my new understanding and I think it will be a lovely wrap!
Thanks again for the help! I wish I had found this site years ago when I started knitting and made so many huge mistakes!
