I only needed to finish about 2 inches on one of the slippers- when my tendon was injured in my hand- so, I couldn’t knit for several weeks. *Thanks for all the entertaining posts here at KH while I was ‘unable to knit.’
Anyway, I was
able to finish up my slippers that will be gifted soon. For more details and the pattern for the slippers- check out my blog… ( I’ve always wanted to be able to say that!)
These knit up fast!! I’ve made several pairs and everyone has always loved them. I haven’t tried to make a pair for men yet-- but, I don’t think it would be hard to make adjustments.
Oh do… they are just a rectangle w/ some decreases at the end- and if you don’t know how to do that-- you wouldn’t even have to… it’s just WAY EASIER to draw the stitches close together if you do ‘decrease’ on the last row.
Ok, for her… you’ll have to cast on less stitches… So, measure her foot (arch area) from the side of the foot to the other side (how high you want the shoes to rest on her foot when wearing them- below ankle) and then… just measure her foot and make them about an inch shorter than her foot is… and they’ll stretch up to 2" shorter than the foot- so, she’ll be able to wear them for awhile.
I’ll look on my converter… to give you USA sizes… (the needles that I use are MM-- so, I’ve lost my USA mental conversion of needle sizes)…
OK, 4.5 USA = 7 (a size 8 would be fine too)
I just make them a little thicker (use a little smaller needle than you’d use to make a garment out of the same yarn) than you might knit a garment out of the same yarn… does that make sense? So, they are strudy, warm, and able to stretch more- if needed.
Thanks! Enjoy them-- I’m working on a new slipper design… it might take me awhile to get it finished- but, I hope to get ‘at least’ ONE FINISHED this weekend. It’s something that I’ve thought of doing for awhile…
