Eastern Cast-on

In the latest issue (summer) of Interveave Knits, there is an article about knitting socks from the toe up by Ann Budd. Ann supplies some information about using the Eastern method of casting-on, but I cannot understand how to get started. There are three diagrams, but no follow-through. I haven’t a clue as to how to knit anything in that particular arrangement of yarns. Anyone have a clue? I have tried several times and the yarns just falls off the needles.
Thanks in advance, Sahara

I think that’s the same, or nearly, as a Turkish Cast on. Here’s a good tutorial, with pictures… Turkish Cast On Tutorial

If you find it tricky or just don’t like it here’s a popular one (yes with me too) which I find very easy and like the result: http://www.knitty.com/ISSUEspring06/FEATmagiccaston.html
