I’ve never seen nor heard anyone talk about this, but I have this fantasy about knitting or crocheting something in white and THEN dyeing it. Has anyone ever done it?
If I did, I would dip it into a bucket with the yarn (on a hanger so it hangs evenly) and leave it in more and more as it sits in the bucket, that way I would get a gradated tint from light (top) to dark (bottom) on the sweater.

I don’t see why you couldn’t do that. It seems to me that it wouldn’t be much different than dying any piece of fabric or clothing. You’d just want to make sure you don’t miss any spots. I’d do some searching on line for information on dying clothing in general.
