Dyeables

I was wondering where I could get yarn to dye with Kool-Aid for a good price…

Ive searched ebay and found 100% natural wool, but would this be a good material for a scarf? Sounds kinda itchy…

KnitPicks.com has dyeable Wool of the Andes, which has been very popular on this forum. You’d have to ask the others about whether it’s itchy or not. I do know that it’s mostly used for felting.

I personally know gals from my knitting group who have had marvelous results when dyeing this yarn with Kool-Aid.

If you DO order from knit picks, make sure you click through from this site, Amy gets credit!

thanks! :happydance:

I just kool-aid dyed some Wool of the Andes on Monday – it turned out really cool!

A little pricier, but a fab selection: http://www.wool2dye4.com/index.asp

Awesome! Do you have pictures? We would love to see it. :cheering:

Me tooo!

Carolyn, was the blue-green yarn and red-yellow yarn that you & Renee dyed WOTA? I think I might have pictures of it!

Yes, it was WOTA! And also what Chris gave to me that I dyed.

Okey dokey! I’ll post pix!

Here they are…the good and the bad…

Those are pretty!!! :cheering: And your daughter managed to get a nice robin egg blue on hers. I never could get a good blue with koolaid! Isn’t it fun?

Okay, to be fair, I guess I should post a picture of the WOTA I dyed. Not Koolaid, though. This is done with Washfast Acid Dyes, if anyone is interested. And they are very easy to use. Mix with water, paint the yarn, spray with full strength vinegar before steaming.

Those are PURDY, Carolyn!

I think this is the WOTA that Renee dyed with Carolyn for bacmiddy/
Christina Ya-Ya. I know for sure that it’s dyed with Kool-Aid. It’s a lovely blue and green.

Picture from our Palloween swap 15 Oct 05.

By the way, Christina was WAY more thrilled with the yarn than she looks in the photo, I am not the best photographer!!!

Thanks Denise!

Actually, Renee did that dyeing all by herself. Didn’t she do a great job? And I know that Chris loved it, despite the story the picture seems to tell :rofling:

Funny that you should comment on the blue…that one color is actually Wilton dye. Finally, I can justify spending all that money on dumb tubs of dye for ridiculously intricate birthday cakes. :roflhard:

Well, you know, that Wilton dye will just have to multi-task now.

Ohh, OK Carolyn! Whoops!

Wow, I love these hand-dyed yarns!! :inlove: Y’all are an inspiration! Carolyn, that yarn you posted is impressive, what rich colors! Thanks also for the info on how you dyed it.

Thank you very much, Amy. I love to share. I had a great deal of trouble dyeing when I first started out, and I would have loved tips and tricks about dyeing at the time.
