It would take a lot of friction and some hot water and a bit of soap to felt a hank of wool yarn
I have dyed many Knit Picks Bare 100% wool hanks and also Paton’s Merino so don’t worry about the 100% Peruvian Highland Wool felting. When you dye the yarn it just lays there and you either put it into a “tub” of water with the dye in it or lay it out on the counter and squirt colors on it from a squeeze bottle. I wrap mine in plastic wrap and put it in the micro wave to set the color. Knit Picks has great instructions and it really is easy… and fun.
