How can I tell what size needles to use for a ball of mystery yarn? I lost the label.

One way to determine what size needles to use is to double the yarn and try passing it through a needle size finder. The hole that it fits is the size needle you can try knitting a swatch with. Adjust needle size depending how dense or loose you want your fabric to look. Is that clear as mud?
You can check for wraps per inch. I can’t post a link from here, but if you google it, you’ll get charts on how many wraps per inch each weight of yarn produces.
