Dropping stitches to fix problems

I’ve been dropping stitches to fix problems. I hate ripping and can hardly do it anymore unless I have to. I’ll drop down a stitch or sometimes two to where I need to be and figure out HOW to fix it. Is there anything bad about this?

I hope there’s nothing wrong with it because I do it all the time! As far as when not to, I seem to remember (and forgive if I’m wrong because it’s been a while since I’ve looked at it), that in Amy’s video she says it might not be a good idea if there are increases or decreases involved since that could mess with your gauge. I suppose some stitch patterns may not be amenable to it either.

It’s an excellent skill to have. Amy has video on dropping down stitches to fix mistakes with a crochet hook. I’ve reversed cables that way.

If you can fix it without ripping back, more power to you!!! :cheering:

Wow reversing a cable? How cool.

Oh good. I still do little things and was worried I was developing a bad habit.

So it just feels like I’m cheating. Sweet.

Dropping stitches down when you can to fix a problem is a sensible thing to do. (And there’s no such thing as “cheating” in knitting!) Let your mantra be “There are no Knitting Police…there are no Knitting Police…”.
