Hello. I am a fairly new knitter. I made a mistake (twisted stitch) about 10 rounds down and decided to try to fix it by dropping down. This was a horrible mistake as it made the yarn SUPER loose and now looks way worse than it did before I tried to fix it. I attached some pictures of what the front and back look like. Can anybody tell me why this happened and how I can avoid it in the future? I have tried dropping down before a few rounds before and it worked pretty well. I don’t have a crochet hook so I was just pulling the yarn with my fingers. Was it because I wasn’t using a hook? I was following this tutorial by the way: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pk7baoiGtGc&ab_channel=WOOLANDTHEGANG
Dropping down failure
A crochet hook certainly makes this easier but you can also use your needles to ladder up a line of sts. Try tugging the piece vertically and then horizontally. That helps the sts blend in with the adjoining sts. Also washing and wet blocking will help even this out.
It looks good in general. Enjoy finishing up!
If the yarn is all in the right place, ie laddered down then brought back up in the correct stitch, but is still loose you can spread out additional yarn into the stitches on that same row by starting with the stitch next to it and pulling in the stitch leg, then continue across the row tomsoread the extra yarn right across the row.
There are various video tutorials in how to do this, here’s one
