Drop Spindle Tips I've learned so far

  1. If you are right-handed, hold the spindle in your right hand and roving in your left. If you are left-handed, hold the spindle in your left hand and the roving in your right. This makes a BIG difference.

  2. Instead of thinking of your roving hand as the pulling (drafting hand), think of it as a clamp or vise. Pull with the hand holding the twist and you can have a more predictable, fast and controlled draft.

Okay, so there are only 2 so far, but I haven’t been doing this long. Anyone else have something they wish would have been made clear when they started?

I’m glad you are catching on :happydance: I think a drop spindle can be tricky to learn, at best, so give yourself a pat on the back! I find predrafting helps the fibers to slide better (as was already mentioned by someone).
