it doesn’t sound right to me!
what i would do, is, use a DPN or short circ for right hand needle
(previous row: work stitches with 2 or 3 wraps on each stitch)
Pattern row 1-Part 1
Slip every stitch, dropping the extra wraps to make elongated stitches.
Switch needles (so DPN is now left needle) slip stitches to other end of needle --so yarn is in ‘1st stitch’
(do not turn the work!)
Pattern Row 1, Part 2:
K1, *slip 6 stitches on to right needle, then take tip of left needle and pull stitches 3, 2 and 1 over stitches 4, 5, and 6 (do not pull over the tip of needle (as in a bind off) just pull to reposition!) return to left needle in this new arranged order (3, 2, 1, 4, 5, 6) and knit each stitch in order.)
Repeat from * across row, ending with a knit 1
its hard to tell from the photo, but an ALTERNATE choice is
work Pattern Row 1, Part 1
Pattern Row 1, part 2:
K1, * cable the elongated stitches, (drop stitches 1, 2, 3 from left needle, slip the next 3 to right needle. Pick up drop stitches (in order with left needle) then return slipped stitches to left needle.
then knit the stitches in the new order: 4, 5, 6, 1, 2, 3
Repeat from * across row , end with K1
the first pattern is called Indian Cross stitch (stitches 4, 5, and 6 ARE INSIDE of the elongated 1, 2, and 3 stitches.
the second pattern is an elongated cable…
I like the first better than the second… (but that is my preference!)–and it seems like the first is what the pattern is describing…
(the pattern directions say Knit 1, (slip the rest of row–(unknit?) then knit the last stitch. (that is a long strand–which can’t be attractive, and could cause bunching)
the method i know, has you slip a whole row, then position and knit the row.
(you can skip part 1 by *slipping 6 stitches at a time,(to elongate) repositioning them, knittting them, and repeating from * )
