dpn question

dpns

I have a quick question about knitting with dpns. My pattern says the following:

“Slip two sts from the end of needle 1 to needle 2,
and from beginning of needle 3 to needle 2 (6 sts
on needle 1, 12 on needle 2, 6 on needle 3)”

How are the needles numbered? Is the needle with the working yarn #1 or #3?
Thanks in advance for advice…
Linda

I always count needle 1 as being at the start of the round and needle 3 (or 4 depending on how many you’re knitting with) as the needle at the end of the round

That works. Thanks so much for your help!

I agree. After casting on your working yarn should always be on the RIGHT. That’s what I remember .
