DPN length?

Is DPN length more a matter of preference (5" vs. 7")? Or when would you use each size? I’m trying a sock with 7" size 3 DPNs and I’m wondering if 5" would have been better. :?? Could someone please explain the finer points of DPNs to me? (unintentional pun!)

It’s mainly a matter of preference. If the 7" is feeling odd to you, then you might be one who prefers the shorter length. (Like the Sox Sticks from Lantern Moon.)

I personally like mine 24" long with a cord in the middle. And 2 please.

DPN length was explained to me as a matter of preference. I prefer working on the shorter lengths because I can brace the needles against the heel of my hand, which makes knitting much quicker for me and I’ve found that I drop the needles less. My longer DPNs have acquired a bend in the middle from where my hand exerts pressure.

I prefer a shorter length for socks, but it does depend on the number of stitches. You have to be careful that they don’t slip off which would be more annoying than the longer needles. :teehee:

I always feel like the oddball when this question comes up. Maybe it’s because guys have, on average, larger hands than women, but I prefer my dpns longer. My favorites are 7". I agree that it’s all a matter of your personal preference. I expected to like the shorties, but I felt like I had to use a death grip to work with them.
