I recently made a pair of mittens using DPN’s–they look ok, but I don’t like the pointed tops of the mittens. How can this be corrected? (BTY, I have decided I like DPN knitting–didn’t think I would, didn’t even think I could ever use this method.)

Is it normal for mittens made on DPN’s to look pointed on the ends? Mine look this way and I was just wondering that maybe they’re supposed to look this way compared to mittens knitted flat.

well i have seen plenty of patterns that look like they have pointy tops and bypassed them because i like more rounded tops. i was thinking that it depends on how fast the decrease happens. not gradual enough= pointy tops? not sure but that is my impression.

To me it would seem just the opposite.
Picture this: You do say 4 decreases spaced around the work (2 land in front, 2 in back) every other row (with the other row being just purl). So, say you started with 40 stitches. It would take about 16 to 18 rows to get down to 4 or 8 stitches to draw together for the top.
But, if you did the same 40 stitches & did double the amount of decreases, (8 per decrease row), it would only take 8 to 10 rows to get to the top. Voila, a shorter, rounder top.
