DPN circular knitting - gap on first row as the round joins

Hi, I just started learning circular knitting using DPNs. I don’t have the ‘ladder’ problem when the needles join but I always have this little gap between the first and last stitch on the first row of knitting. Is this something to do with my casting on? Any way to avoid it? Thx.

Nearly everyone has that problem whether it’s dpns or circulars. A couple things to try… Slip the first CO st to the last needle and the last CO st to the first needle - swap places. Or add an extra stitch and knit it together with the first one on the first round.
