Downsizing pattern

Hi:

I am wanting to knit this pattern, but in a preemie size. Any ideas on how?

TIA!

Edited to add: how to size the pattern properly, is what i meant!

Well one thing would to be reduce the yarn thickness, maybe to a laceweight, and smaller needles, like a size 1 US/2.25 mm and then swatch and see what you get gauge-wise.

Ok, then what? I have fingering weight yarn and small needles…so i will let you know what I have come up with!!

Just another question: couldn’t I just cast on a number of stitches divisible by 5 (it is K3, P2 rib first) and then just follow the instructions?

TIA

So, what I did was use 2.75 needles, and baby weight yarn, as well as casting on only 65 stitches. The repeat didn’t turn out quite evenly (have to fudge a few stitches at the end), but now what I am wondering is

  1. how high of a hat do I make it-the hat size site I went to said to make the hat 4 inches high including the brim-where do the decreases come in to play? How long should I knit before decreasing? And 2) I would really like to make the hat continue the swirls up into the hat, but how do I decrease so that that happens? Is it possible without a lot of work? I was thinking I could just follow their decreases, starting with row 9, but would that make the hat look weird?
    TIA
