Down sizing pattern

I am wanting to knit the “kelly sweater” for a infant, does anyone know how to make a pattern smaller?
it reads as…cast on 87 for a (s/m )95 for a (L/XL) could I just subtract sts by 8

That should work; don’t make it too small though, they grow really fast. A newborn can easily wear 3 mo size and be into 6 mo size in just a couplethree months.

thank you for answering so quick, what about the arms? if I knit till its 7 inches, then it saids bind off 5 sts on the next 8 rows

You can knit that length, maybe a little less, cuffs can be turned up but you might not need the sleeves that long. For the BO you’d probably need to only BO 4 sts on the next 6 rows or whatever works out with the stitch number you have.
