Hi,
I’m trying to start a hat, and the pattern (which I found online) says to start at the top and work your way to down the brim to eliminate any bunching - which makes sense to me. But it calls for me to use 4 double pointed needles, which I have NO idea how to use. I am suppose to start off with 6 stitches and then join the knitting (no idea what that means). THen knit one row, and then on the second row I increase the stitches (from here I know i what I am doing…) But I really have no idea how to begin. Any help would be great! Thanks!
Check out Amy’s videos under the Advanced techniques section. She shows how to use DPNs.
You can use circular needle(s) instead.
Yes, you really have to see knitting on double pointed needles to believe it!
When a pattern has you start knitting on dpns with just a few stitches, start by putting the sts on 2 of them. Put 3 sts on one, 3 on the other. Use a 3rd needle to knit with, do the increases and after a few more rounds, rearrange the sts on 3 needles and add the 4th needle to start working the way the pattern instructs. Starting out with 2 really helps keep your knitting in line until you get more sts.
