Double-point vs. Circular Needles?

I’m working from a sweater pattern that starts with a 16" size 15 circular needle to work the neck, then instructs me to change over to size 17 double-point needles for all the increases that create the neck yoke. Finally, I change to a size 28" 17 circular needle for the body/sleeves.

I hate working with double-point needles and try to avoid them if possible. My question is: since I will be increasing the number of stitches the whole time the knitting is on the double-points (instead of decreasing, where I could see the need to go to double-points), why can’t I just switch to a 16" size 17 circular to do the neck/yoke and then change to the 28" size 17 circular when I have enough stitches? Any reason why this wouldn’t work?

Thanks!

 Your way seems a lot more logical.

Nothing wrong with that idea; larger dpns are hard to find.

Go for it lady…

That’s what I would do, too.

Thanks, everyone! I’m gonna go for the short-length 17 circular, instead of the hated dpns. Hooray! :cheering:
