Double-point equivalent for Addi's

Hi. I really like the addi turbos, but am gravitating towards some patterns that need double-pointed needles. Are there any equivalent to addi’s in the double-point world? How about single point?

probably just metal needles which i think are okay but they definitely feel different than addis.

have you considered using two circs instead of dpns? i just ordered a whole bunch of addis so i could make socks this way. i loved knitting on two circs WAY more than on DPNs. i was afraid i would get confused about which needle is which but that isn’t the case at all. The only time i have had an issue was when i wasn’t paying attention and grabbed the wrong needle to work with but it was a very easy fix. i would strongly suggest that! :thumbsup:

That is a great suggestion, but I have been afraid to try dpn’s and circs. The last project I did on circs I knited inside out. Not a big deal because it was felted, but it still threw me off of them. :frowning:

There is a book about knitting socks on two circs, right? What is the name of it?

Socks Soar on Two Circular Needles. I would see it in a store before ordering it though. I saw it this weekend and didn’t like it. The layout just wasn’t pleasing to me and there didn’t seem to be any basic socks in there. all had charts and i am only just starting to get interested in knitting socks…i am NOT prepared to work with charts yet too!! :shock:

I am feeling the same way. I have not done socks yet, I want something basic before I deal with charts. I really like to read my patterns, not do charts. At least not yet. :wink:

Ladies! Give charts a chance. They are, in reality, so much easier than reading every line of a pattern. Really!!

I know that I can read a crochet chart so much easier than a written pattern. I just wish that knitting had standardized symbols like crochet did. I haven’t done any charted knitting yet… but then again, I haven’t done much more than simple basics in knitting so far!

The charts are if you want to put the “picture” on the sock. You can do so either while knitting in or you can use duplicate stitch after, or do like me, and ignore the “decoration” all together and just make the socks :slight_smile:
I won’t make socks any other way now! After you get the basics, you can very easily translate any pattern written for dpns to 2circs…
So don’t let charts in that book even phase you. They are not charts in the normal sense of stitch pattern.

Sensational Socks has instructions for every sock in three formats: 4 DPN, 5 DPN, and 2 circs. Toe up or cuff down, your choice.

I did my first socks toe up on two circs, both socks at the same time (except for the afterthought heels, which I did one at a time). I found it pretty easy.

Doing my second pair toe up on 5 DPNs with a short-row heel. I found that two circs was fine for DK weight and size 3 needles, but with fingering and size 1’s I had laddering problems. The DPNs just worked out better in this case.
