Double moss turning in to rib when decreasing

Hi all,
Another question about the double moss jumper I’m knitting. Sorry

So far all my decreases have been every row but now my pattern of telling me to switch to over other (or every RS row) I’ve tried this a couple of times and had to unpick because it keeps coming out as rib.
Does anyone know how to remedy this problem so I can decrease every other row but keep my double moss pattern?

Thanks

You need to read your knitting. Thinking about the row you’re on and should the next stitch on the needle be worked the the same (knit the knits, purl the purls) or different (knit the purls, purl the knits.) Do whichever stitch maintains the pattern vertically then continue the row in pattern. I hope that makes sense.
