Double Moss Stitch Hat Decrease...Help!?

I’m making a hat in double moss stitch: R1- k2,p2
R2- k2,p2
R3- p2,k2
R4- p2,k2
and for whatever reason I thought this stitch wouldn’t be so hard to decrease…well after 7 different attempts to decrease in the pattern, a lot of frogging and being close to ripping my hair out I found out I was wrong. If anyone knows how to decrease this stitch pattern where it still retains the double moss stitch look please, please, please help. Oh and I’m using 96 st. Thanks

Last night I came across this video in which she makes a hat in this pattern from start to finish. It might help you see how the decreasing can be done. The pattern will be disrupted but this shows how it works out.

If you are decreasing on a row that starts with k2, p2, then work the first stitch as k2tog, p2 and end the row with k2, p2tog.

On the next row, you’ll work p1, k2, then work p2,k2 across and end with p2, k1.

With the next decrease, work the first two stitches together and the last two stitches together and you’ll be back to a 2/2 pattern.

It helps a lot to ‘read’ your stitches, so you can work the pattern without worrying about what is written.

Thanks for the video. It was helpful-ish. She left out some information though about what row she was actually starting her decreases on, so I need to watch it more times to find out I guess.

Ingrid, If I were decreasing that way wouldn’t the second row be a k1,p2 because in the pattern I need 2 rows of k2,p2 and 2 rows of p2,k2 or am I missing something
