Hi, I just taught myself how to double knit. I figured out the cast on, selvedges etc. Now, i would like to adapt a pattern I used for a kitchen towel. I understand how to work the color changes. I am curious if there is a way to alternate K and P in a pattern–on one side. Can’t find any examples in Ravelry patterns. Just tried it, but it seems the colors will be messed up. I made the Thistle towel last year, which has a two color pattern and a one color brocade.
Thank you!
Charlotte
You want to add purl sts to a 2-color double knit border, is that right?
What is happening to the colors? It seems like something you’d really have to pay attention to but do-able.
I want to make a potholder to match the towel. I can use the central thistle colorwork pattern for the center no problem. Thought I would try the brocade (knit and purl) in single color for the border. Was unable to effectively work the purls on a knit background.
Thanks for your interest!
It seems to me that it’s simpler to work this if you knit across the sts from one side and slip the alternate sts which make up the second side.
Then you should be able to work side one as knits and purls, turn and do the same on side 2. Is this the way you’re working the double knitting or are you doing both sides at the same time?
Brilliant! I am going to frog the bit I have done using the contrast to stand in for the embossed diamond purl pattern. It ought to work!
