Double-knitting with 2 different fibers?

Has anyone ever double-knitted with two different yarns, same gauge?
For example, have you used an outdoorsy wool one side and a silky one for the lining to make a super warm thing that could be worn next to the skin? It seems to me that as long as they were the same thickness, it could be done.

I’ve never done it, but I don’t see why it wouldn’t work. It sounds like a great idea!

What an interesting idea and something that never occurred to me. I think it is just one of those things that hasn’t been done yet that we’ve heard about. I have thought really hard and I can’t think of a single problem with it. Great idea. Ooh like mittens with a soft lining and tough outside!

If I could be bothered learning DK I would find this one of the most useful applications for it!

I’m going to try it. I have one skein of Artyarns Regal silk which knits up at about the same gauge as some shetland wool I have. I’ll see how a swatch turns out with those two. I love experiments.
