Ok, I was starting to work on the Feather and Fan Dishcloth Pattern from the Dishclothe Boutique. There are three sets of 3 K2Tog’s, and three sets of 6 (y/o, k1) which make the wavy part of the pattern. I counted the stitches after I got done with the row and there were about 6 extra loops on the needles. (The cast on was 43 and I think I had 49 or 50 stitches after that row.) Is this supposed to happen?
Does this question make sense? I don’t know if I was doing something wrong or just being insecure. I may try again tonight but I’m not sure …
Your stitch count should not change. The yo’s and the K2tog need to balance each other out. Count how many yo’s and how many K2tog you do over the course of 1 row. The number should be the same.
Yeah, I was just thinking that. Since a K2Tog is a decrease and a YO & K is an increase they should equal out. I was doing something wrong. I will have to try again tonight.
I think your problem might be with the “yarn over and knit”. And yarn over does not need a knit stitch to make it complete. A yarn over is simply bringing the yarn over the right needle. Whatever instruction comes after that does not have to do with the increase. It could be a knit, it could be a purl, etc. The yarn over stands alone as the increase. This could be where you’re running into problems.
If you are doing yo wrong as kq suggests that will give you a different pattern but it would not give you extra loops, you would just have positioned them differently.
Look at your row and count how many k2togs you did and how many yos. It sounds like you did 6 extra yos or perhaps missed 6 k2togs.
