Pattern call for: place pat for neck shaping: 1st row: pat 18. K55. Pat 18. What do the different ‘pat’ mean in this instance?

That means to work the pattern stitch for 18 sts on both sides of the k55. Whether that’s ribbing or seed st or whatever your pattern stitch is.
