Don't understand pattern

Hi everyone,

I’m back to knitting after a long absence, and I bought a kit to make a simple tote bag. However, I’m finding it not so simple! Here’s where I’m stuck (I’ve ripped out what I knitted two times already!):

Fancy stitch:

R 1: K2, wyif (with yarn in front) sl 2 P, wyib (with yarn in back) *k2
R2: (and all even rows): Purl
R3: wyif sl 1 P, wyib,*K1
R5: Wyif sl 2 P, wyib K2, wyif sl 2 P, yo

The thing that confuses me is R1 and R3, where there are not two asterisks. So I don’t know what is supposed to be repeated.

I’ve copied the part of the pattern carefully, so it is really what they tell you to do.

If anyone is patient enough to explain to me what I’m supposed to do, I’d be so appreciative!

Thanks,

Breadpudding

where did you get this pattern from? was it on line, for example?

You might want to check for corrections.

okay, before you do anything for a real project look through the pattern
and see what doesnt make sense to you an do it on a testing scarf.

-thank me if i helped

yeas she’s right it might be a mistake you made like copying it down or some thing, thats what happened to me once but on the testing :teehee:

Hi Sunny Singer and March Girl,

Thank you for replying.

These are the exact words on the paper that came in the kit. I bought it at a store up here in Canada. The directions are in English and French.

The company that makes the kit is called EasyKnit/TricotFacile.

I wonder if there is another tote bag pattern that calls for the same type of cotton yarn. If I can’t follow this pattern, maybe at least I won’t waste the yarn!

Any suggestions would be most welcome!

Thanks again,

Breadpudding

Hi Ingrid,

Thank you! The pattern you give makes sense at first glance. I’m going to print it out and try it.

I’ll let you know if it works.

Thanks so much!!!
