Don't understand....Help?

To make a long story short I need help with this pattern. Hit a part in the pattern that states [K3, work chain loop} 18 times.
The pattern states that a chain loop is: knit next st but do not drop st from LH needle [yo on RH needle, pass st over] 5 times, knit through back in next LH needle st, pass RH needle st over. The chain loop has me confused. Can anybody explain this better to me or point me to a video that might help? I appreciate your help!!
Thanks,
Lisa

Hi and welcome. What are you knitting? Can you link to the pattern, or if not give its name and where you got it? That could help. The only loop stitches I’m finding are for making fringe loops. It doesn’t look like that’s what you’re wanting.

Welcome to KH and happy 4th!
You want to knit the next stitch but don’t drop it from the LH needle and then make a yo on RH needl. Pass kntted st (which is to the right of the yo) over the yo. Repeat this (that is, repeat the yo, pass stitch over) 4 times more (five times total). Once you do that, knit into the back loop of the next stitch on the LH needle and then pass the second stitch on the RH needle over and off the end of the RH needle. I’m not sure if this explains it better or just different but see if it helps. Take it one operation at a time and if you can’t make it work, come back and ask again.
Is this for the Astana hat? http://www.naturallycaron.com/projects/astana/astana_1.html

The pattern is Astana One Skein Hat by Lisa Gentry. Here is the link to the pattern : http://www.naturallycaron.com/projects/astana/astana_1.html
