I just started the stockinette part of the leg after the ribbed cuff. Why am I seeing the purl side of the stockinette? It looks like I can just flip it inside out…I think I can. But why am I not seeing the knit side anyway?

Is it possible you’re knitting “inside out”? I did that a LOT when I first tried knitting in the round.
I knit socks with two circulars … sounds like you got it turned inside out so flip it and keep on going.
I can’t tell one side from the other on a 2x2 rib and I always used the right needle (since I’m using 2 circs-if I hadn’t, wouldn’t I have knitted OFF of a needle?)
Well, I flipped it and got it straight. Just not sure how I got to that point.

It happens. When you pick up your work after laying it down, make sure the needle tips with the yarn going back to the ball are facing you instead of away from you.
I do two things … My tail is always on the right side when doing the cuff and leg … you can also use a plastic pin to mark the outside of your cuff and do that on the first side of the round. Some gals use two differnt needles of the same size but the circular part is a different color. And as suzeeq said … it can happen easily after laying your work down, especially when you are a newbie. Oh another hint is this - look and see how the cast on looks on the inside of the sock and on the outside (right side). If it’s at all possible try to finish a round before putting the sock down - although if you use the plastic marker pin and know that the cast on tail is always on the front right that will tell you where you are in the round.
When you work in the round, the yarn going to the ball is always on the right needle. So when you pick it up, make sure that needle is in your right hand and that it’s the closer one to you.
