Does anybody know this pattern?

This is an afghan that was given to my parents as a wedding gift from my great grandmother in Newfoundland. My brother is getting married this summer and I would LOVE to make one for him. Nobody in the family has any idea about the pattern. Any ideas on what it’s called or where I can find it?? Thanks a bunch!!

Hi and welcome. That’s a lovely blanket. This looks similar I think. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/zig-zag-baby-blanket-2 I went to www.ravelry.com and searched for “blanket” and this was on page 1 of 152. http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/search#photo=yes&craft=knitting&sort=popularity&pc=blanket&view=captioned_thumbs You can search for “chevron” or “ripple” and maybe other terms to narrow it down. Could you provide a closeup of the stitches? It looks like there might be crochet involved, I assumed the blanket is knitted but can’t be sure - my eyes just ain’t so great for detail in small photos these days. BTW joining Ravelry is free and doesn’t get you spammed.

Beautiful work and a wonderful idea for your brother’s wedding present. I think GG has the pattern in the baby blanket. Usually these blankets are knit horizontally but yours looks to have been knit in vertical strips that were then crocheted together.

Thanks for the link, that’s the closest to my pattern I think I’ve seen so far. I’m on Ravelry as well, it’s a great site. Here is a close up of the afghan, it’s all garter stitch.

I think it is chevron. Because of the color changes it looks to me like it was made in strips and seamed.

Yeah. I also think it’s a chevron pattern. If you go on www.Ravelry.com & search chevron blankets, I’m sure something like that will come up. That style has been very popular lately.
