I love this scarf and I want to make it for my dad for his birthday.
Problem is, I can’t figure out if it’s a little to feminine. He is very traditional and wouldn’t wear anything that wasn’t pretty traditionally manly, kwim?
What do you guys think, is it a manly scarf?

I like it, but I don’t think a ‘manly man’ would consider it masculine enough.
The link didn’t work for me. Do you mean the Ropes and Ladders Scarf? I’m not sure. I think guys like the DNA scarf and the Irish Hiking Scarf, and they’ve got cables. It’s not a big help, but I think it depends on the guy.
I LOVE that pattern, I must knit it for me!! Although, I don’t think it’s very masculine either, sorry.
A very nice scarf, but the eyelet ladders make it look more feminine IMO.
I think it might depend on what color yarn you use to knit it. In a black, navy, or dark brown, definitely manly. Of course those colors might hide all the stitchwork… 
I love the pattern, though, and have bookmarked it for ME!
Could you rework the pattern removing the yo’s. If it were solid on the edges or a different border, I think it would work.
Looks ok to me. If there is a problem its the width. I would look to double the cabling. I really don’t think the eyelets are a problem.
I don’t think it’s feminine at all. I’ve seen similar patterns on men’s sweaters.
I agree - leave off the eyelets and maybe increase the border width.
I think it’s a beautiful scarf, but I agree that the eyelets aren’t manly enough… A little bit wider wouldn’t hurt either.
I just asked DH if he would wear the scarf (without telling him anything about what I thought of it). Immediately, he said he liked the cabling, but the holes reminded him of a doilie and if I was thinking about knitting him that, could I please omit the holes? :roflhard: :roflhard:

To each their own I guess, I think it is quite manly, even with eyelets. My hubby took a look and said he quite liked it. And he is one big hunk of burning love, babies!

I think this would be a great opportunity to expand some horizons.
That IS a beautiful pattern. But I think I am too lazy to do that many cables for a scarf. I hate knitting scarves!
