Do you have any information about this pattern?

Hello everybody,

This question may be like looking for a needle in a har stack, but hopefully all your knowledge and experience may help.

In May a deceased woman was found in a national park in Sweden. As per today the police has not been able to identify her, neither her nationality as no identification documents etc. have been found. In the woman’s belongings a hand knitted vest was carefully kept in a plastic bag. The pattern seems to be inspired by Lady Di’s peruvian sweater from the 1980’s, however with other colours and slightly different pattern. Unfortunately, it seems to be impossible to find more detailed information about the vest of the unidentified woman. Similar models can be found in red on the internet, but there seem to be none in blue.

Does anybody in this forum recognize the vest more in detail, or know more about the pattern in detail, or has actually seen an identic vest?

Photo of the blue vest has been published in newspaper article:

Thank you in advance for all help.

Looks like the charts for the Diana sweater were once on ravelry but no longer available.
Maybe someone started with those charts and changed it to their liking to create the blue vest?

Thank you very much for your reply and the sample patterns from Ravelry! Yes, it may very well be a possibility that the unidentified woman or somebody close to her knitted only the vest, that is without the sleeves.

We are still hoping to find any information if a similar vest in blue could be found somewhere in order to narrow down possible details about the woman’s origin, nationality and/or previous whereabouts.

It seems like the blue colour could be a traditional peruvian natural ink, if so it would be very valuable to know if the woman could possibly at one time have travelled in South America? (She was found dead sitting by a tree in a remote part of a Swedish national park, wearing hiking clothes, with this seemingly quite unique peruvian handknitted vest neatly tucked away in her backpack. According to the police, she was adult/middle aged, and had probably been outdoors for a while).

It is such a sad story, maybe she has relatives or friends that miss her, however her DNA matches no missing person in Scandinavia. Yet, it is hard to believe that nobody has been able to recognize the vest over here, considering it has quite a unique pattern and seems to have been a garment very precious to this unidentified woman.

So if anybody has any more details about such a blue knitted vest, maybe has seen it at a local market at home or abroad, in a second-hand store or on social media such as various Instagram or facebook knitting communities, it would be of greatest value to get any such information.

Thank you very much in advance and have a nice weekend!

Best regards,
/Sunrise

Such a sad story. I wonder if it would help if you contacted the designer of the pattern to see if she can give you contact information from those who have bought the pattern. There’s only one project detailed on Ravelry but there may well be others.

Or the knitter (deceased person found or friend of same) may have bought the yarn online.

Identifying the fiber type and posible sources of those colors might help localize.

I downloaded a copy of the image and cropped it.
