Directions don't seem to work out right

I am desperately trying to follow the following directions but they don’t seem to work out right:

Cast on 17 sts
Row 1: K3, yo, p2tog, yo, p2tog, yo, k1tbl, k2tog, p1, yo, skp, k1tbl, yo, k3
Row 2: k3, p3, k1, p3, k2, yo, p2tog, yo, p2tog, k1
Row 3 & 4 - repeat Row’s 1 & 2

I am not coming up with the right amount of stitches at the end of each row.

I really appreciate any help you can give - I am verrry confused:knitting:

When you do a YO, you just lay the yarn over the needle from p to k sts, or wrap it around the needle from k to p sts. Also, row 1 has 4 decs and 5 incs, so you’ll end up with 18 sts instead of the 17 you CO. Unless you forgot to write in one of the decs, because row 2 has 2 incs and 2 decs.

the YO is CREATING a stitch, and teh p2tog is decreasing one stitch, does your pattern get thinner or wider as you go or is it just supposed to be straight the same width the entire way?

Thank you for answering -That is my problem - I wrote the directions down exactly so now I don’t know how to accomodate - emailed the publisher of the book asking about a correction but got no response. Seems like I get 15 stitches at the end of the 1st 2 rows, not 17 - HELP!!!

I think I get 15 stitches at the end of the 1st 2 rows even though I start with 17 stitches

I just tried it again - I get 18 stitches at the end of row 1 and then have an extra stitch at the end of row 2 - I’m about to give up and make something else.

The way I work out row 2, there’s 5 YOs but only 4 decs so you’re adding 1 and ending up with 18. But row 3 works uses 17 sts and ends up with 17. So there’s something wrong with row 1… too many YO I guess.

Which pattern in which book is it? Many books have the errata (corrections) available online.

I just tried to do it myself, by casting on 17 sts, and I had the same problem. I ended up with 18 stitches, so there is one stitch remaining on the left needle at the end of row 2.

I think there is an error in the pattern.

Thank you so much - at least I’m not totally nuts.

The book is All Stitched Up by Jane Crowfoot. I have sent emails to the publisher asking for corrections but received no answer. Do you have any suggestions for correcting? This is for the lace border on a sweater and everything else is completed.

I agree - any suggestions?

Here’s the link to her blog-- but I don’t see any contact info: http://www.janeknits.blogspot.com/

She worked for Rowan for a while, it seems-- is that the publisher you contacted? If so, and they still haven’t gotten back to you, I would contact another dept., such as public relations, etc., and ask them to put you in direct touch with her.

Thank you - I have contacted Barrons and they will try. If this doesn’t work my sweater will become a shawl unless someone knows how to adjust the pattern.
