Dimpe stitch - how to? Please help

Dear all

I hope that you are able to help me. I really wanted to knit the dimple stitch scarf from Easy knitted accessories by Jeanette Ttrotman and as I prcticed the dimple stitch yesterday I realised that step 4 really does not make a lot of sense to me and hope that you will be able to shed some light.

Step 1 /B P1, *y2rn (wrap yarn twice aroudnd the needle antoclockwise), p1, rep from * to last st, p1

Step 2 /B P1, yb, *sl4 , (yf, k4tog tbl) twice in the same 4sts, rp from * to last st, p1 or:
on the next row, take the yarn to the back of the knitting where indicated and slip the next 4 sts purlwise onto the right needle without working them. As you do, drop the extra loops thta you created in the previous row when you wrapped the yarn twice around the needle.

Step 3 slip the 4 sts back onto the left needle.

Step 4 bring the yarn forward to the front of the work again and knit the 4 sts together through the backs of the loops, leavin the 4 sts on the left needle

Step 5 repeat step 4 but this time take the 4 sts off the left needle when you have worked them. You have now made 4 sts to replace 4 sts. Contnue working the row.

Step 4 is the one I truly struggle with as I am not understanding how you can k4tog tbl without bringing the st to the right needle and then still have 4 sts left to knit to create step 5???

Thank you for all your help

Nathalie

Well, it didn’t make much sense, when I first read it, but I think it might work.
You knit the 4 stitches together tbl, but you don’t drop them off the left needle.
You have one new stitch on the right needle, and still 4 on the left.
Then you do that again, and this time drop the stitches off the left needle.

This shouldn’t be too difficult. Essentially what are you are doing is a yarn over before you do the k4tog. So you are going to bring the yarn to the front of your work between the needles. Then you are going to k4tog only you are going to do it through the loops of the stitch on the side facing away from you, but you are going to leave those 4 stitches on the left needle. Normally you would knit through the front loop of the stitch and you’d pull the stitch off the left needle when you are done, you won’t be doing that this time. Now your yarn is going to be in the back. You need to move the yarn to the front between the needles again. You are going to k4tog again through the back loop of the stitches, only this time you are going to remove those stitches from the needles once you’ve knit them together.

I’ve never seen this stitch before, but I’d imagine its going to look something like a spider turned on its side, with 4 lines going vertically with two lines going horizontal cinching the 4 lines together. I may be off base, but thats what it sounds like.

Hello and thank you

This is the pattern, sorry could not find one with more detail:

Trvvn5, thank you for your contribution, I am halfway but still a little problem, nearly there, I know

I am a little confused with the last paragraph, because when I do that, the K4tog, then becomes one stitch?? I am so confused. How many stitches should you have once you have finished, 2, 3 or 4? I am only getting 2 and I think I should end with more…:???:

PS: just found one with a lose up picture:http://farm1.static.flickr.com/133/386795119_b6cc966019.jpg

Thank you

You should end up with 4 stitches. You will have the first yarn forward, which will create one stitch. Then you with have the k4tog which will be another stitch. Then you will have the 2nd yarn forward that creates another stitch, and then the final k4tog for the last stitch. So you should have 4 stitches in total.

The k4tog will become one stitch when you remove them from the needle. But you’ve created 4 new stitches to replace the 4 you are losing.
