Hi I am new to the forum and would be extremely grateful for help with my cardigan pattern.
The start of the pattern is 42 stitches… is 6 rows of st-st and cables. At row 3 there is a m1 stitch so 43. Having completed the first 6 rows…all good so far. Then the instructions are word for word…1st to 6th row sets st-st and cables. Keep continuity of st-st and cabled work 84 more rows…m1 as before in 3rd and foll 6th row, working extra st in st-st between cable …so to end up with 57 stitches. I get that i make 1 stitch every 3rd row but not the part after that. Confused. Thank you. Fiona
Welcome to the forum!
Increase after 3 rows and then every following 6th row until you have 57sts (row 84).
You’ve already increased on row 3, now increase on row 6 (that’s 3 rows later) and then on rows 12,18,24,30,36 etc (that’s every 6th row).
What is the name of your pattern?
Oh my goodness I was reading that completely wrong. It is James C Brett JB473 a cardigan.
Can you see at what point in row 6, 12 etc that I make the extra stitch.
On the original m1 on row 3 it was specific about where to to make 1. Btw thank you so much for helping me.
It looks as if maybe having completed the first 6 rows…i do rows 1 and 2…then m1 more in 3rd and then every following 6th. Would the first 6th be three rows after that final of instructions or 9 rows later? Fiona
The increase is to be made in the same place as in row 3 of the 6 row pattern.
What are the exact directions for row 3?
What is the name of your pattern?
James C Brett JB473 cardigan.
I wasn’t sure whether I m1 more in the next 3rd riw before going onto the 6th?
Thank you so much
Row 3 directions
K18, p1, c6b, p1, k7, m1, k1, p1, c6f, p1
= 43 stitches.
Carry on for 84 rows ending up with 57 stitches. As you can see there are cables. Thank you.
Looks like one increase per increase row between the cables. So don’t work an additional increase on row 3.

Thank you very much. Yes that is the pattern to I will carry on…I have done rows 1-6 once. = 43 stitches.
So i will do rows 1-5 now and then on row 6 m1…etc and not increase again until the following row 6.
But all the rows in between just knitting or purling the extra stitches according to the row?
Thank you again. Does this sound correct to you?
Yes, that sounds fine. Knit or purl according to the pattern you’ve established in the previous rows. The m1 sts will be knit on the RS rows and purled on the WS rows.
That is so kind…thank you. So disappointing to start and then have to stop. My mother in law was a brilliant knitter but dief some years ago. Have a lovely week. So hot here in Berkshire
