different thickness yarn from same brand and weight

Not sure where to post this but is a certain variation in yarn normal? As in I’ve bought 20balls of cygnet seriously chunky (same supplier, at same time) and I’ve just started ball 4 and it looks and feels totally different.

It shouldn’t look or feel different if its all the same colour and dye lot, but I have also had this with some yarn.
You can check the dye lot number on the ball band. If it is different to the others you should be able to swap it so long as the shop still has some of the same dye lot, contact the supplier and tell them you have been sent mixed dye lots and would like it changed.
If it’s all the same dye lot then either take it into the shop so they can see the difference for themselves or call/email customer services if you bought online and explain the difference. They should offer to replace or swap it but if they have different textures in the same dye lot you have to just try to explain the one you need for your project.

When I had this happen it was extremely difficult to explain the difference, I also sent photos of the yarn as it looked a bit different too. My supplier was extremely helpful and the yarn was replaced - they actually sent me some of the correct stuff and some not, but didn’t ask for the odd balls to be sent back so I just did what I could for my project then knitted up a charity donation with the rest.

Yes, I’ve had this happen too.

Thanks for the help I have carried on hoping it’s not to vastly noticeable.

You could try striping it with one of the “good” balls. Or have a look theough the rest, and if this is the only odd one, leave it till last and hope you don’t need it.

I should have also mentioned the possibility of returning it, although you may not be able to get a replacement that matches the good ones.

It’s a real pain, because unless they are different dyelots, it is hard to tell if there’s one different when you are buying.

Hope it works out okay.
