Difference between increase stitch instructions?

This is my first post on this forum. I am knitting in Tuscany, far away from my knitting manuals, with terminology with which I am not familiar. The instructions say this:
Rows 2: Knit, increasing in every st but the last (9 sts)
Row 3: Purl
Row 4: Rep Row 2 (17 sts)

Row 8: (K1, inc in next st) to end (49 sts)

What is the difference in the increase techniques in rows 2 and 8?
Thanks!

Hi and welcome to KH!
You can use the same increase stitch in both rows. There’s no difference. A knit front and back or a knit right loop or knit left loop for example will all work.
How lucky you are to be knitting in Tuscany.

Thank you for clarifying this. I have another question but I can’t see how or where to post it. How well does the iPhone app work on an iPad? Are the videos sufficiently clear? I don’t want to invest in it otherwise as I do not have an iPhone. Is there an android version of the app planned!
Thank you!
