Difference about cast off

Hi everyone,
I’m confusing about the difference between “cast off 2 stitches” and “cast off 1 stitch”
Before this thread, I do my pattern need to “cast off 2 stitches” but when I’m turning “cast off 1 stitch” I’m suddenly dazed, like what’s the difference…
To casting off is, knit/purl 2 stitches, then slip the first stitch over the second, right? Is this “cast off 2 stitches” or “cast off 1 stitch”?

If you work 2sts and the lift the first over the second, that’s one stitch cast off. If you then work a third stitch and lift the second over the third, that’s 2sts total cast off.

It takes working one more stitch than the number you need to cast off according to the pattern. To cast off 6sts, you need to work 7sts for example.
