Did I screw up?

I have been working on a cardigan for some time now. I finished the back and both sides and am on the sleeve. I am wondering if I am an idiot when it comes to reading directions.

The pattern has me knitting a ribbing edge for 2 inches on each piece, then switching to the larger needles and working the pattern for the sweater, and doing so until the piece measures like 17", 19" so on and so forth.

Am I supposed to be measuring the piece from the very edge so it includes the 2" of ribbed edging or was I supposed to be measuring the piece from the start of the pattern?

Unless it says differently, the measurements are from the cast on row.

Thanks Ingrid. All of a sudden I got this huge panic and although I was certain it was from the cast on row, I started questioning myself. :thumbsup:
