Deja Vu...

I am making the Mikey cap and the same thing is happening with the brim as what happened with the other pattern! I followed the instructions to start for the brim, and then my knits and purls were on the wrong sides- should I start with picking up the stitches purlwise? I thought maybe then my knits and purls would be on the correct sides. If this is not how I do it- can you explain how I get them facing the right way? Thanks so much- this has already given me a lot of frustration, but thankfully I have you! Also, I don’t do seaming and I found someone who will do it for me. In the future, I am NOT taking on projects with seaming!

Could you post a link to your pattern please. Hopefully it’s free so we can look at it.

I figured it out- it was the knitter not the pattern! On the other hand, I had to take out what I had knitted because I wasn’t keeping good track of my stitches and made a mess- I will try again tomorrow - thanks!

Thank you!

I am a bit confused on the brim still. It says “Repeat last two rows, except pu 3 sts on both sides, then 3, then 4, then 2. End with RS facing.” If I end with RS facing, I will miss adding the stitches on the purl side- So on the last row, I will just pick up 2 on the knit side and don’t do a purl side? Won’t my stitch count be uneven then? My next row is straight purl with no added stitches

“Next row: K to marker, m1, sm, k10, sm, m1, k to end, pu 2 sts from hat edge.
Next row: P to end, pu 2 sts from hat edge.
Repeat last two rows, except pu 3 sts on both sides, then 3, then 4, then 2. End with RS facing.”

You’re to work these two rows, picking up 2sts on the knit row, 2 on the purl row. For the repeats: pick up 3 on the knit row, 3 on the purl row and repeat the pick up of 3sts on both sides, knit and purl,
pick up 4 on the knit row, 4 on the purl row,
pick up 2 on the knit row, 2 on the purl row.
That way you’ll pick up evenly and have the RS facing for the next row.

You’re making great progress with this classic hat!

it says End with right side facing so next row is purl…otherwise the purl row will be on the knit side- I don’t want my knit and purl sides mixed up again-

In this pattern the next row is a RS purl row. It’s the turning row that you can just see at the edge of the brim.
You can see it a little better in these projects:

From here on you’ll be working the lower portion of the brim.

It’s a good place to add in a lifeline just in case.

Thank you for clearing that up! I thought it was me not being able to count!

I am so glad I found someone to seam this for me. I am finished knitting it now, but I would not even know where to begin to seam the thing!

Well good to have help. Maybe you can see how the seaming goes and then have that technique in the future. Please do post a photo when this cap is finished.

I met with the lady today who sewed the hat for me. She is a multi crafter- she knits, crochets and sews! Here is the cap- she complimented how well I knitted it, made my frustration worth it!

So well done, both knitting and seaming! It was worth the extra effort and time to puzzle through the pattern.
