Decreasing

Hello

New to knitting attempting a fairly basic stocking stitch cardigan would be grateful for help understanding decreasing for neck. Had 37 stitches and should end up with 27 but I only have 24 so decreased by 3 to many.
The pattern says dec 1 st at neck edge for next 6 rows and then on foll 3 alt rows then on foll 4 rows ??

Welcome to the forum!
The next 6 rows would be rows 1,2,3,4,5 and 6, then 8,10,12 then 13,14,15 and 16. So starting at 37 sts you would end up at 24sts.
What is the name of the pattern? If there are different sizes, check that you’re following only your size. Finally it sounds like an error in the pattern. See if you can tell from the directions that follow what the correct stitch number should be.

Hello

I have 24 but should have 27. It’s bellissima 9697 I am knitting the 3rd size.

Yes, you followed the directions correctly and 24 is the correct number assuming the decrease directions are correct. Read further in the pattern and see if either 24 or 27 is consistent with those directions.
There’s an error somewhere in the pattern. It’s worth it to send a message to the company to point out this inconsistency and ask about the correct directions.
