Decreasing seed stitch

Hi everyone, my name is Mia. I’m new to this site and to knitting so I’m hoping someone can help me. I’m knitting a beanie on straight needles although I have a pattern I decided on knitting seed stitch instead of stockinette stitch. Now I have the problem of how do I decrease with seed stitch ?
I’m also knitting a beanie in the round ( well I was ) and I just can’t get that nice swirl at the top of the beanie. So forgetting that swirl is there another way I can complete the beanie without the swirl ? Using stockinette stitch.
Thanks
Mia

You can finish the seed stitch hat with the same kind of decrease used for a beanie. You’ll have to account for the decreased stitch perhaps by knitting or purling 2sts in a row but you can maintain the pattern overall. On the next dec round you’ll be back in k1p1 seed stitch.
You can work a centered double decrease in several places every other round.
You can work 2-3 more inches in seed stitch and bind off straight across the top of the hat. Take a look at knit hats on Ravelry and you’ll see a variety of styles.

As for the swirl on the beanie, that’s done similar to this example.
For 100 sts, work (8sts, k2tog) repeating around. Work all sts around without decs. Round 3, work (7sts, k2tog) repeating around. Work all sts around without decs.
Round 5 work (6sts, k2tog) repeating around. Work all sts around without decs.
Continue working one fewer stitch in the decrease round until you can k2tog around.
