My pattern says - Beginning with 63 stitches - "Dec one st at each end of next 10 rows (43 stitches)- I am reading that to mean I decrease 2 stitches per row (one on each end), and to decrease every row so at end of 10th rows I will have decreased 20 stitches total. Am I reading that correctly. Also wondering what decrease method to use since I am using moss stitch. Seems impossible to have stitches leaning the correct way.
Thanks,
Charlene
Decreasing in Moss Stitch Sleeve Cap
Below are the instructions for the sleeve cap.
Total number of rows per instruction for the sleeve cap is only 16 rows! Gauge is 8.5 rows per inch making this sleeve top only about 2 inches. Is there something wrong with these instructions or am I reading it incorrectly somehow?
Thanks,
Charlene
What is the name of your pattern?
Yes, that’s correct, one stitch at each end, 2 per dec row and worked every row.
I tend to work the decreases as ssk at the beginning of a right side row and k2tog at the end, usually one stitch in from the end. On the wrong side rows ptog through the back loop works on the ssk edge and p2tog on the k2tog edge. The very edge sts are just knit on the right side, purl on the wrong side to make seaming easier.
The sleeve cap is fairly shallow but some patterns are designed that way. It’s kind of a hybrid between a fully elongated cap and a drop sleeve. If there’s a schematic, it should show that. You might work one sleeve cap and check to see that it fits nicely into the space left for it on front and back.
It is the never ending Debbie Bliss Teddy Bear Cardigan! Ugh…every step of the way has been a challenge and I cannot wait to be finished. Thank you so much for your recommendation on the decreases. I have finished one sleeve and it looks like it is going to work out ok (although it looks a little large). I agree, the sleeve cap seems more like a drop sleeve. If only there was a schematic… I may re-do the sleeve and use the smaller sleeve instructions. I can see the light at the end of the tunnel.
Thank you so much!!!
That looks beautiful . Great work
I’m intermediate knitter and trying cable patterns myself .
Thank you!!! I have a love hate relationship with this pattern. I mostly love it but will most likely not make it again. I really enjoy cables. Looking forward to seeing my grandson wear it. So close to the finish line. Couldn’t have made it without all the help from this forum!
