Decreases

What does it mean then a pattern says:
“After the bind off, decrease 1x4 sts, 2x3 sts, 5x1 sts, using the sloped bind off method.

What is the name of your pattern and designer?

Not sure if it means to decrease every row (both edges) or every other row (one edge). Seeing the picture of the pattern would help. I kind of assume this is a shoulder, so it would be every other row.

Basically, you’ll bind off 4 stitches on the next decrease row, 3 stitches on the next 2 decrease rows, and 5 stitches on the next one after that.

The sloped bind off method avoids making stair-steps:

Sorry ColoCro I think you made a slip up on the last section of the instruction.

decrease 1x4 sts, 2x3 sts, 5x1 sts

Bind off 4 stitches, once
Bind off 3 stitches, twice
Bind off 1 stitch, five times

That last direction which likely takes up 10 rows (binding off 1 st every other row) would create a smooth curve.
What do you think?

@Isabelqz as we don’t know the pattern or which part of the pattern this is, it might be to bind off this number on each side, if it is say a sleeve cap. But you could be making anything so just watch out for if it’s at one side/edge or both.

Oops! You’re totally right! The last line means to bind off 1 stitch, five times.

Just shows how easy it is to slip up on a direction. We all do it from time to time.

Thanks for the pattern name and link.
It’s jot directions for a sleeve capmthen, as there are no sleeves. Maybe underarm or neck line.

Hopefully you’re all set on the instructions now, but if not, do let us know as we can help more if needed.
